DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY
Andrea Campbell, director, producer, editor, cinematographer
Andrea Campbell was born in Sayre, Pennsylvania on January 15, 1966 and is currently a resident of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Ms. Campbell has worked the last fifteen years in television: directing, producing, editing, and filming. Her work includes documentaries as well as public affairs and magazine style programming, commercial and educational programming. Her fiction, narrative short film Fake Clouds wa s selected for presentation at the Sundance festival in 2003. Current projects include, Children in a Jar, a documentary about the tumultuous social, political, economic and environmental landscape of Central America told through the stories of the children who have been left behind. Naked Philosopher, is a collection of interviews and footage of religious and philosophical characters recorded by the director during a five-week trip through Northern India. And just complete Circle of Love, a series of programs for WHYY-PBS that document first hand the joys and struggles of family caregiving.
Campbell developed, produced, directed and edited a series of documentary profile programs, People Who Must, featuring people with a driving passion for a particular issue or interest for PBS. One of the programs, Ms. Liberty, earned Campbell recognition as a director, producer, by receiving an Emmy award for outstanding documentary and a Gracie Allen award for outstanding representation of women in the media. She received Emmy nominations and awards for, Examine Your Zip Code, a weekly magazine program, and a series of stories for public television in Philadelphia, WHYY examining the new immigrant communities in Philadelphia.
Campbell has worked on other socially conscious documentaries including Saving Pennsylvania, which tackles the topic of land usage including farm and city preservation, and The Amish and Us, a documentary about the plain culture of the Amish people of Pennsylvania and their growing dependence on tourism. She has also spent a great deal of time traveling the world studying communities and cultures and recently spent five weeks in India shooting footage for a documentary now in the post-production. Campbell holds a B.S. in Broadcasting from Millersville University of Pennsylvania and has experience in network, cable and public television.
